Cake = Happy!

Cake=Happy!  Have you ever seen anyone unhappy around cake??  Me neither!  Cakes and cookies are always surrounded by happy people and happy occasions...birthdays, weddings, any celebration really.  One of those celebrations was the reason I started getting interested in "caking"....my daughters first birthday to be exact.

So a little about me and what I'm doing here.  My name is Andrea and I'm a stay at home mom of two great kids....who are currently fighting over how to play Indiana Jones on the Wii.  Our daughter "E" is 7 and our son "B" is 5.  About 6 years ago when E was about to turn 1, a friend of mine and I decided we wanted to take a cake decorating class so we could make our daughters first birthday cakes.  I don't know how many cake blogs I've read that start out the same way!

We went to our local craft store and took a class on basic cake decorating where my friend ended up making a really mean buttercream rose:)  I really thought I would just make cakes for my kids birthdays and that would be that.  Over the years I made all of my kids birthday cakes but ventured out and started making cakes for friends for baby showers, baptisms and birthdays.  A lot of my friends, who are so supportive, suggested that I start a business!  Who? Me???  I just laughed it off thinking I would go back to the workforce after our son started Kindergarten.  But then I started to discover that I had a genuine interest in how professionals made their creations look so amazing.  I started watching the cake shows, youtube "how-to" videos and reading numerous blogs on the subject.  I want my cakes and cookies to look amazing too!!!  How do I get there?  Lots of trial and error and hopefully some classes in the near future but I think I'm getting the hang of it!  It's amazing what you can learn on YouTube:)

Fast forward to today and I'm in the beginning stages of starting an actual business!  (the VERY beginning stages).  Who knew there were so many hurdles to jump over to make a cake or cookies for someone!  I really enjoy how excited people get when they see the cakes or cookies that I have made for them so I know it will be worth the effort it takes to get things going....again....Cake = Happy and that's how I want to spend my time!

I'm planning on updating when I have a project or I'm just trying something new.  I'll load pictures of all the things I've done so far, even the first cakes so you can see the progress I've made.  We all have humble beginnings when we start something new and I want to pay homage to that.  I consider myself a work in progress and I'm looking forward to seeing how far I can make this go and what I'll be able to create!

A special thanks to all of my friends and family for all of the kind words and support to get me where I am today and to my former high school dance team teammate Erica for suggesting that I start one of these:)  Thanks for stopping by!
